Dribbblr in your language

By @meap on 470 days ago Read Later

We have received a lot of great feedback on Dribbblr since launch. One of the most common was localization. Thanks to the small amount of text, we decided to give translating a try. We started out with a handful of the most common languages, and will hopefully expand from there.

Version 1.0.2 was an un-planned update, containing translations in: French and Dutch. We hope to get again a little bit closer to all our app’s beloved users. The only thing we can not translate are the dribbble shots, you have to find your own way of understanding them :)

Related to this step, we would like to build up a stable network of co-workers who would be helping us with localizing our apps into other languages. If that sound’s interesting for you and you would like to help us with iPhone/iPad and Mac apps just let us know. All we require is that you speak english and love Apple products as much as we do. Drop us a line via the comment form bellow or mention @tapmates on Twitter.

We are looking mainly for Chinese, Spanish, German and Japanese translators, but will consider others if users are interested. We will be happy to hear from you and believe that together we can make our apps even better!

First Impressions of Dribbblr

By @robinraszka on 509 days ago Read Later

Dribbblr was approved by Apple three days ago and we have collected tons feedback from our users. So far, most of it is positive, which is great and motivates us to work harder! While writing this post, Dribbblr is #8 in the Reference category on iTunes! We would like to thank everybody who who helped spread the word via twitter and blogged about it.

We are working on a 1.0.1 quick update right now which should fix some minor bugs and bring a better icon.

UPDATE: Go and grab 1.0.1 from the App Store with support for iOS 4.2 Beta.

For the next update 1.1 we plan on implementing the following features:

  • Rebound indicator (indication if the shot is rebound or if the shot has some rebounds)
  • Embedded Twitter (possibility to tweet without leaving the app)
  • Support for .Gifs (animated shots)
  • … and more!

FAQ

iOS 4.2 Beta: Dribbblr supports all stable versions of iOS (3.2.x), but does not run correctly on pre-release version of the iOS. We quickly identified the problem and hope to submit an update soon. For the curious: the ads were causing it to go into an infinite boot-loop.

Read-only: The Dribbble API is read-only at the moment, so it is currently impossible to add features like commenting or liking.

Premium: The Premium version currently just disables ads. Based on feedback from many of you, the next version will include the possibility to switch ads on even in the premium mode as it seems that many of you love them. The goal of the premium version is to add some additional features in the future, but for now it acts as a donation to support the development as the app since it’s free!

Reactions

If you already didn’t get it, get Dribbblr on the App Store! If you already did, now is the time to write an iTunes Review! It really means a lot!

The Story behind Dribbblr

By @meap on 518 days ago Read Later

A few days ago, we submitted our latest app Dribbblr to Apple. It has been a long time since we released Cookmate, while we were busy with our customers projects, the work on Dribbblr has encouraged me write this article as a small summary of its development.

After about 6 months of client work, we got thirsty to make another app of our own. When Dribbble released their API, Robin came to me with the idea to make our own iPad Dribbble client, it was very easy to get passionate about it. Soon after that we discovered we will not be the only one and definitely not the first. We decided to give up the idea of competing with others from the beginning, and think of it as a game. Get all “gung-ho” about the idea and have no limitations, which is something that happens rarely with client work.

It was a wonderful month full of ideas, emotions, and an incredibly creative environment. The result isn’t an idea that will change the world, rather “just” an app, where every single of us has given their best. We spent a ton of time fine-tuning the UI and fought those never-ending battles with Robin in order to achieve what we think is the ideal experience for every user. I also spent a large portion of the development with Izzy and I have to admit that working with him was a real pleasure and a big inspiration.

The app is written in such a way that it is a pure joy to read the code :) I know that probably only a few of you – fond developers will appreciate this, but thanks to the amount of problems we have run into during the development I have to move our modesty to side and have to say that it is one of the best apps we have ever produced.

There will definitely be some bugs, as there are in every app, but this does not change the fact that I would be proud to give my signature under this code in case we would release it (which we can’t thanks to our framework that started to grow on this app and with which we have some serious plans for the future).

We take pride and joy in the quality of our apps. Compared to our competitors, we work at a relatively slow pace. Everything has to be absolutely perfect from our point of view. Other companies may be modern day factories but we are not. We want to make the highest quality apps possible, no matter how much they cost. Regarding Dribbblr, we hope that our users will enjoy using it as much as we do and as much as we enjoyed it’s development!

Finally I would like to thank our whole team. My thanks goes mainly to Robin, Izzy, and Ondra for taking care of the bugs and reporting them, and of course also to all our testers for their valued comments. And for sure to the whole tapmates team which has made this possible.
