To Clarify

By @patrickmandia on 533 days ago Read Later

Yesterday’s post regarding the Instagram facelift brought us both positive and negative feedback. We would like to explain what our intention was.

At Tapmates, we use Instagram every day. Our employees are all over the world, so it’s an awesome way to see what their homes look like. The more we used it, the more we thought about how the interface wasn’t at it’s full potential (from our point of view). Saying something is one step, doing it is the next, so after a couple days, we had our facelift. We loved it, but were curious to see what others thought. To be honest, we didn’t expect this much feedback, but are happy you like our work!

As mentioned, the goal was just to show what we think Instagram should look like. We’re not saying ours is the best, or even good, but it’s what we think it should be. If people continue to redesign Instagram and provide feedback, hopefully the founders will take action.

If the Instagram team want’s to use something from our facelift, we would love to give it to them for…

FREE.

  • This is nothing wrong and needed no clarification. Who and why is anyone being offended by something like this? It’s like Tapmates being offended by the fact that Cookmates app icon looks horrible… which it does and probably could use a redesign.

  • I think the guys behind Instagram could be happy that someone loves their product so much that they want to help them improve it.
Honestly if my startup was that lucky I would reach out to you guys and try to get something worked out.

Hope Instagram will reach out to you guys!

  • Awesome redesign, keep up the good work ;-)

  • I understand the Instagram redesign was just for fun. But like someone’s comment on the previous page, I don’t think it’s fair for Instagram’s designers to be publicly criticized saying their design “isn’t good enough” and “this is how it should look.” And it’s going to suck all the more for them if some influential or perhaps overrated designer tweets this (like Elliot Jay Stocks who happened to tweet this to thousands of his followers) and all the other “sheep” designers begin to agree.

  • Love your instagram mockup, all the negative responders are more than likely just overtly jealous of your skill.

Coincidentally, I agree with Tom Fletcher in regards to the Cookmates icon.

    IT.

    IS.

    CRAP.

Seriously, you guys can do amazing work (as in this instagram mockup) and the Cookmates icon is just bad. Fix it!

    Love your stuff guys!

  • @colorfulclock Yep, it is. Cookmate 2 is coming ;-)

  • I say well done to Tapmates for making a suggestion rather than complaining. I also say well done to those that were comfortable criticising it.

  • A constructive critique, a beautiful design and I’d love to see it implemented…
